Lucille “Ceil” Ellen Whitt, 86, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 4, 2022. Ceil was born on April 7, 1936 in Springfield, Illinois to John and Teresa Hesse Wheeling. After graduating from high school, Ceil joined the Navy for 6 years as a dental hygienist. While in the Navy, Ceil met her husband Ray and after marrying they moved to the North Alabama area and started a family. After the children were school age, Ceil went back to college and earned her degree in Nursing. Ceil worked as a charge nurse for Medical Center, Humana and Huntsville Hospital in Orthopedics her entire career. Ceil retired from nursing in 1996 to spend time with her family, mostly her grandchildren which she dearly loved. When Ceil was not spending time with her family or friends, she loved camping, boating and relaxing at her lake house. Ceil was always up for an adventure. Her life was symbolized through her love for Christ and the Catholic Church, and her love and devotion to her family and friends. Ceil is survived by her children, Jean Whitt, Tom (Pat) Whitt, Mark Whitt and Julie Whitt (Larry) Burkman. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 nephews and 2 nieces. Ceil was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ray Whitt; her parents, John and Teresa Wheeling; her sister Carol Greitens and her brother, Jack Wheeling. A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1055 Hughes Road, Madison, Alabama 35758 at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Father Antony Vadakara will officiate. Burial will follow at Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, Alabama. The family would like to give special thanks to Erin Pugh of Comfort Care Hospice (Aveanna) and Tegan Smothers who cared for Ceil in her final months.
