View Tribute Book LOYAL RAY SMITH, 86 years of age of the Deskins section of Vansant, VA, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Grundy, VA, following an extended illness. Born in Campbell, MO, he was the son of the late Scott Franklin and Sara Olive Nora (Tuttle) Smith. Ray served in the United States Army from 1961-1962 and was a member of Vansant Church of Christ. He moved to Buchanan County in the mid-1950s where he met and married Betty Lou Osborne and made a home in Vansant, VA. He was a loving husband and father and was an employee of Jewell Coal and Coke for over 20-years. He was the owner of Ray Smith Photography, providing pictorial memories for many families in Southwest Virginia. He was a musician, songwriter, Sunday School teacher, avid reader and Bible student. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2-Sisters: Glenda Smith and Vera (Carl) Smith; 3-Brothers: Harold (Nancy) Smith, Earles (Deloris) Smith and Carles (Janice) Smith. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Betty Lou (Osborne) Smith of Vansant, VA; Daughter: Donna Gay (Gary) Smith Fletcher of Vansant, VA; Sister: Novella (Egan) Green of Campbell, MO and Feline Companion: Bella. Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M. Funeral Services for LOYAL RAY SMITH will be conducted Monday, November 7, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Bob Smith and Pastor Eddie Wilson officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA. Active Pallbearers will be former coworkers, family and friends.
