LaVerne Jarmon Obijiofor, daughter of the late Elvin Jarmon and Rosie Annabel Humphrey was born on June 28, 1947, in Dime Box, Texas in Lee County. LaVerne attended Sandy Point AME church in Dime Box and McKinney Memorial CME church in La Marque, Texas. She was a member of the Church of Christ. LaVerne attended elementary school in Dime Box and Lake Road Elementary in La Marque. She furthered her education at Woodland Jr. High and Lincoln High School in La Marque. LaVerne married William Scales in the 1960s and to this union two beautiful children were born, Suzette and Lionel Deon Scales. LaVerne was a diligent sibling, friend, and a long term employee of the United States Postal System until her health took a change. She was an avid reader of historical books, knitted, embroidered, cycled and was a true Facebook fan. She was also a true friend and a comfort to her family. LaVerne leaves to cherish her longtime friend/caregiver, Charles Blackwell; brothers: Samuel (Lois) Andrews and Marion Andrews; sisters: Rosie Lorraine Anderson, Jeraldine Jarmon and Christene Anderson; children, Suzette Scales and Lionel Deon Scales; grandchildren, Kawana Shick, Jacquelyn Bell, Maria Bell and Chazz Jackson; great grandchildren, Destiney, Mariah and Jonathan Shick, and James Shick along with many other loving family members. She also leaves her precious pooch, “Bubbles.”
