View Tribute Book Josephine Rebecca Rich (“Josie”), of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, died at her home on December 25, 2022. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Gamsky Rich; brother, Jacob Rich; paternal grandmother, Patricia Rich; maternal grandmother, Irene Gamsky; aunt, Trisha Gamsky; cousins Angelica Gamsky, Molly Endter, Kate Endter, Cassie Endter, Evie Endter; and many other loving friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her infant brother James Christopher Rich; father Jeffrey Rich; brother Andrew Rich; Grandfathers Neal Gamsky and William Rich; and aunt DiAnne Rich. Josie grew up on the family farm near Plymouth, Wisconsin. She loved to nurture plants and animals, and spent many happy hours exploring the farm with her mom, dad, and brothers. She was a junior Girl Scout in a troop led by her mom, and took pride in earning her many merit badges. Josie was a true empath, like her late brother Andrew. Life with all of its cruelties was at times just so very hard for her. She was a searcher. Not unhappy, but not content. She was in constant exploration of life and herself. She loved the beach. She was drawn to the ocean, taken by its power, its unceasing motion, its mystery and beauty. She loved to walk the beach in San Diego at low tide and collect sea shells. She had many life struggles, but wanted only what was good and beautiful for herself and others. Josie was so well-loved. She was always one of the most popular children in her class. At parent-teacher conferences, we always heard the same thing: Josie was so popular that she could control the dynamics of who was left out and who was let in. She used her leverage to let in the kids who were usually left out. She made sure the “unpopular” crowd was admitted to the group’s activities. That was Josie. In middle school, she was the Student Council Treasurer. “My name is Rich, and I am destined to be treasurer,” she said in her campaign speech. She was a skilled gymnast, and went to the national competition in San Diego shortly after her father’s death in March 2010, where she received medals in three of the four events she competed in. She was also a track star at St. John the Baptist school in Plymouth. Josie had recently completed her application to the nursing program at Lakeshore Technical College. She wanted to help others, and to contribute to a healing profession. She was a sweet, loving, beautiful person who was grateful for her life, home, and family. The family will receive guests at Suchon Funeral Home from 10:00-12:00 on December 31, followed by a brief funeral service. Father Thomas Mueller will officiate.
