Joseph’s Obituary Joseph A. Walter, 70, of La Crescent, MN, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born December 31, 1951, in Alexandria, MN to Alfred J. and Irene M. (Olson) Walter. Joey lived in La Crescent at the same residence his entire life. He graduated from La Crescent High School in 1969. Joey worked as a crane operator for Interstate Roofing until 2021 when he retired due to his cancer. Joey was a simple man with a heart of gold and a love for Vintage cars. He restored many cars in his lifetime. In his younger days, he loved motorcycle racing and playing pool. He was the best at whatever he did. Joey built things by himself that one person should not have done on their own. He was a wonderful son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Joey is survived by three daughters: Sierra (fiancé’, Colt Manley) Wood of La Crescent, Jocylyn (Dan) Poehler, and their children, Halia, Daniel and Gordon of Minnesota City, MN and Cheyenne Wood of La Crosse; three sisters, Cheryl (Thomas) Kloss of La Crescent, Patricia (Andrew) Anderson of Onalaska and Dawn (William) Farrell, Jr. of Houston, MN. He also left behind his special cats, Soloman and Nacho. Joey was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ricky Walter. The family would like to thank all Joey’s caregivers at UW-Madison Hospital for their care through all his cancer treatments, and at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse for making him and his family informed and comfortable during his treatment and stay there.
