Obituary On Sunday, December 4, 2022, Dr. John Rhee of Gaithersburg, MD, dear husband of 61 years to Leone D. Rhee; beloved father of Julie, Kirk, and Helen; a loving grandfather to Melinda, Rachel, Deborah, Laura, Ryan, and Finn; and a great-grandfather of 8, passed away at the age of 91. He was very proud of receiving his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Georgia. He worked as an Economist at the Dept. of Labor until his retirement in 2004. He loved playing Go and keeping up with world events on the TV news and reading the Washington Post and Korean newspapers. He survived WWII and the Korean War to live a full, productive and generous life. The family will receive friends at Pumphrey Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland on Saturday December 17, 2022, 10 am-11 am. Services will be held there right after at 11 am-12 Noon. A short committal ceremony will be held at the Chapel of the Gate of Heaven, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD at 1:00-1:15 pm. In lieu of flowers, John’s family asks that contributions be made in his memory to St. Mary’s College of Maryland (in St. Mary’s City, MD). Read more
