Joe’s Obituary Joe Graham Hicks was born July 9, 1940, in Sherman, Texas. He died, at his home in Denison, on January 2, 2022, following an extended illness. The son of Graham and Helen Hicks, the family moved to Borge, Texas, when Joe was two. He attended school there until 1952, when his family returned to Sherman where Joe finished high school in 1958. During his high school years, Joe held several posts in the student government and belonged to numerous organizations. After finishing high school, Joe worked for a short time in Midland, Texas and attended Odessa Junior College. He then entered East Texas State University. where he became active in the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, serving as president of this organization as well as Attorney General of the Student Body. Joe graduated, in 1965 with a double major of Speech and Business. He received a Master of Science degree in 1966. Later Joe did post graduate work at North Texas State University. In 1967, Joe married Jo Carolyn Renshaw Hicks. Together they owned Joe and Jo Hicks Registered Quarter Horses. Joe was involved in the horse business for many years. He was also the owner of Blue Ribbon Realty. His main profession was College Professor. Joe taught, in the Fine Arts Department at Grayson County College, for thirty-one years, where he received numerous awards for his professionalism. Following his retirement, Joe continued to teach part-time for several years. He also served as President of the Sherman Community Series, an organization that provides professional entertainment and preforming arts to Grayson County. In addition to horses, Joe loved all animals. He always had a yard full of dogs. He enjoyed helping animals and people. He had a kind heart. Those who knew him will remember his for his kindness and his sense of humor. Through the pain, he thought of others. Joe is survived by his wife Jo Carolyn Hicks and his daughter Hannah Ashlyn Hicks, brother Pat Hicks, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Graham and Helen Hicks, brother, Mike Hicks, and sister, Hilary Hicks. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Read More
