Jane’s Obituary Jane Carol Norman, 73, of Mexico, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Boone Hospital Center. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, at Arnold Funeral Home. Private burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, at the funeral home. Jane was born on October 29, 1949, in Mexico, the daughter of John Roland and Irene (Burgess) Long. On December 18, 1971, in Mexico, she married Vernon Albert Norman. He passed away on October 16, 2019. Jane graduated from Mexico High School in 1967. She obtained her bachelors degree from Central Missouri State University and masters and specialist degrees from the University of Missouri. Mrs. Norman was an Art Teacher at Mexico High School for 30 years, retiring in 2001. Jane used her artistic talents in her pen and ink drawings illustrating historic landmarks within the community. Her works of art have been admired by many. As an avid quilter, she enjoyed expressing her talents by sharing her quilts with family and friends. She was a member of Prairie Pine Quilt Guild and over the years served as president. Jane was an active member of the Mexico United Methodist Church as the church historian, an officer of the James circle and a member of the quilting group. She was a former member of the Art Guild, and a passionate advocate for Audrain County Crisis Intervention Services (ACCIS) as the former board president. Jane was a teacher at heart, and taught many classes on calligraphy, quilting, water color, and sewing from beginners to advanced. She freely shared her talents with many. Survivors include three children, Phillip Norman of Dallas, Texas, Amy (Mike) Groves of Mexico, and Daniel (Kara) Norman of Mexico; three grandchildren, Sidny Groves, Morgan Norman and Samuel Adair; two sisters, Martha (George) Phillips of Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Nancy (Bill) Moss of Sedalia; three sisters-in-law, Valerie (Ken) Murray of Lee’s Summit, Edna DeFord of Arizona, and Harriett Vaccaro of New Jersey; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her husband, Vernon, Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Irene Long; one brother, John David Long; one sister-in-law, Dortzel Cockrum and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth DeFord and Pete Vaccaro.
