James W. Hake, age 80, of Wrightsville, died peacefully on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Born in Wrightsville on July 10, 1942, he was the son of the late James R. and Arietta May (Fisher) Hake. He was the loving husband of 57 years of the late Jill M. (Schroll) Hake, who preceded him in death on December 14, 2019. Jim was a 1960 graduate of Eastern York High School. He was the owner/operator of Hake’s Garage, which he opened in Wrightsville in 1970, and Hake’s Sporting Goods, which he opened in 1986 next to the garage. Jim was very active in Wrightsville Baseball, playing and coaching for many years in the Susquehanna League. He was inducted into the Susquehanna Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015. Jim enjoyed spending time fishing and crabbing in the Indian River Bay from his place in Dagsboro, DE. He was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed spending time with his dogs, driving his red Corvettes and riding in his blue pickups. Jim is survived by his daughter Janelle M. Shannon, and her husband John J. Shannon, Jr. of Wrightsville, his son Jess R. Hake, and his companion Sue Smith of Elizabethtown, and his granddaughter Justine M. Snell of East Prospect. He was preceded in death by his son James W. Hake, Jr. A funeral service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 700 Hellam Street, Wrightsville, with Pastor Scott Gray officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
