Sympathies message

  1. Hildred Cassel was witty and well informed about the world. She read avidly, gardened knowledgeably, worked crossword puzzles with zeal, cooked into her 97th year, and cared passionately about the wellbeing of all the world’s people. Widowed young, she worked as a secretary for the American Chemical Association in Washington, DC, and for a large Baptist church in Durham, NC. She was proud of her three children, her six grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Those who knew her enjoyed her good humor and friendly, clever banter. She was independent and self-sufficient and could be counted on to hear confidences and advise wisely but only when asked. Up to the end she remained herself, her intelligence unimpaired by age and her ability to laugh intact and exercised freely. She was my beloved Mom and I miss her and thank her forever.
