Hendrika M. “Henny” (Stokking) Strathmeyer, 95, joined her Lord and Savior after passing peacefully at her residence on Thursday, December 22, 2022. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred R. Strathmeyer. Born May 22, 1927, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Gerrit Jan Stokking and Mechelina (Seuren) Stokking. Growing up, Henny split her time between Brooklyn, New York, and Atlantic City, where she loved to spend time with her extended family. She graduated from Bay Ridge High School in 1945 and went on to work as a secretary at a Dutch shipping company. In 1947, Henny met the love of her life, Fred. They were married on October 13, 1951. Henny supported Fred in developing Strathmeyer Christmas Trees while raising five children. Together, they loved to travel the world, participate in National Christmas Tree Association meetings, and attend many Penn State Football and Women’s Volleyball games. They were married for 56 wonderful years until Fred’s death in September 2008. Henny was a diehard Penn State Fan, an avid bridge player, and loved to bowl. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church bible study, the Order of Franciscans, Altar Rosary Society, and St. Rose of Lima Church. More than anything else, Henny was devoted to her family and God. The love of her family brought her much joy and pride, and her faith brought her inner peace. Henny’s love of life was infectious. She was as fast with a joke as she was with a hug. She loved music and loved to dance. She would often delight her family by being the first person on the dance floor, even when her aging legs could no longer support her vivacious spirit. She had an endearing laugh, the most beautiful smile, and blue eyes that twinkled. She found joy in moments big and small – from her daily eclair to the birth of a new great-grandchild. Her kindness, love, and laughter will live forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Henny is survived by four sons, Fred R. Strathmeyer, Jr. and his wife, Sherri, Gerrit J. Strathmeyer and his wife, Catherine, C. Timothy Strathmeyer and his wife, Leah, and Brian S. Strathmeyer and his wife, Cori, all of York; a daughter, Robin A. Gross of York; several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly. In addition to her parents and husband, Henny was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Mechelina “Macky” (Stokking) Strongin and Wilhelmina “Willy” (Stokking) Nixon Panyik, as well as Macky’s husband Jim. The family takes solace in knowing they shared a loving and raucous Christmas together in Heaven. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6th, 2023, at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7th, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima, 950 W. Market Street, York followed by a burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery and a Celebration of Life reception. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Henny by treating others with kindness and taking some time out of your day to dance to your favorite song. Arrangements by the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St. York, PA 17403.
