Schmedel, loving and witty husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend entered into eternal rest at the age of 90 on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis he was born on Tuesday, February 2, 1932 in Indianapolis to the late Everett L. and Cornelia B. (May) Schmedel. Harry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years as a weather observer. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Greenwood Masonic Lodge #514 F & AM, a 50 year past Master Mason and a 50 year Mason. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and past Masters Club, serving as President in 1992. Harry worked at Allison Division of GM for 32 years, retiring medically in 1982. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to the lodge’s, fishing, traveling and going on cruises and his true passion of leather working after retiring. Harry leaves behind to treasure his memory, his wife of 51 years, Beverly A. (Cable) Schmedel; daughters, Vicki S. Hartmann and Denise A. (Don) Grafe; three grandchildren, Nicole Grafe, Nicholas (Vivian) Grafe and Valerie (Zach) Sheff; two great grandchildren, Brayden Allan Grafe and Amyla Lou Grafe; sibling, Lynne E. Babcock. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Barbara M. Johnson and Eva Sparks; and two brothers, James W. Schmedel and Bill Schmedel Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2022 at G. H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
