View Tribute Book Hal Lester Senkel of Bryan, Texas entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on the morning of Saturday, November 26, 2022 at the age of 81. Hal was born March 9, 1941 in Cameron, TX to Ed and Aileen Senkel. Hal grew up in Buckholts, TX while attending Rogers Baptist Church. Before graduating from Buckholts High School he enjoyed playing basketball and football and being a member in FFA. During his junior year he was a member of the Buckholts poultry judging team that won first place in State competition. After attending Temple Junior College, he began his 45 year career as an insurance salesman and manager for Life & Casualty Insurance Co. American General Life Insurance Co. and AIG Insurance Co. While living in Austin, he served as the Poultry Judging Superintendent for the Austin Travis County Livestock Show & Rodeo for 20 years and loved being one of the head umpires for the Northwest Austin Kickball League. After retiring from his career, one of his greatest joys and accomplishments was giving back to his hometown community of Buckholts where he proudly and wholeheartedly served as Mayor and volunteer member of the Buckholts Fire Department for 5 years (2008-2013). While he was Mayor, he established Buckholts’ first Police Department. His biggest accomplishment was assisting the Buckholts Volunteer Fire Department in winning the 2010 Mueller Helping Hands award from over 200 applications for a free fire station building. Hal had a love for “the past”. His very first love was refurbishing and collecting antique Farmall tractors and proudly driving them in local center Texas town parades. He was a member of the International Harvester Lone Star Chapter 25, Club. His second love, pride and joy was his 1930 Mode A Ford Coupe. When showing his A in contests and driving in parades, he often brought home the prize winning trophies. He was a member of the Brazos Valley A’s. While he loved all his hobbies, let’s not forget his miniature Dachshund , Freckles. Wherever Hal went, Freckles was right by his side. He always carried a picture in his billfold of her and to the end would show her picture to anyone who would look. Hal loved the outdoors whether it was on a mower or tractor, traveling or vegetable gardening with his wife Carolyn; he loved being surrounded by nature. But the truest love in his life was Carolyn, with whom he shared 25 loving years of marriage. Hal is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Aileen Senkel and three very special cousins. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Von Gonten Senkel; his lovely two daughters, Kimberly Senkel (John Carver) and Tammy Rodriguez (Steven Rodriguez); granddaughter, Taylor Rodriguez (Chis Alvarado); and great-granddaughter, Luna Alvarado; nephews Eric Von Gonten (Tracy) and their Children, Kate, Jack and Dean and nephew Ryan Von Gonten (Karen) and their children Micah, Torah, Violet, Mavie, Zinnia and Moses; and many beloved family members and friends.
