Obituary of George W. Hepworth Sherrill-George W. “Pete” Hepworth, age 84, of Pexton Street passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon September 15, 2022 in St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was born on February 4, 1938 in Oneida, New York a son of the late Walter B. and Helen (Townsend) Hepworth and was a graduate of the Vernon Verona Sherrill Schools. On January 25, 1957 Pete enlisted with the United States Air Force and served as an Airman First Class until his discharge from McGuire Air Force Base on February 24, 1961. On December 6, 1958 Pete and Joyce Vanderwerken were united in marriage in Plymouth Church of Sherrill and shared that forty-seven year vow until Joyce’s death on March 19, 2006. Prior to his retirement in 1995 Pete was employed a supervisor with Bristol Myers Company. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of the Atlantic Salmon Fish Club and the Oneida Lake Association. At a class reunion in 2011, Pete and Sharon (Mallery) Griffin reconnected as friends and shared the next eleven years together. Surviving are his two daughters and their children, Cherl Hepworth of Homer and grandson Nick, Cathy (Michael) Rosebush of Portsmouth, NH and grandson Daniel and granddaughter Atira, his companion Sharon Griffin of Sherrill and her daughters, Leslie Stewart, Donna Roberts and sons Christopher Griffin and Timothy Griffin and several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Pete’s wishes there will be no calling hours or services. Private burial with military honors for the family will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Clinton, NY.
