George Derrick Shamley was born on September 30, 1957, in Aurora, Illinois, to Emily Neal Woods and the late George A. Shamley. He passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2022. George moved to Joliet, Illinois, and attended Joliet Public School Systems and East Joliet High School. George professed his love for the Lord with the help of his friend, Mrs. Larrie Ann Jordan, and his cousin, Marvel Martin. George was a jack of all trades and master of none but was the kindest and sweetest person you could ever have met. George was employed at Home Depot as a forklift driver until his health began to fail. George is preceded in death by his father, George A. Shamley; maternal and paternal grandparents; two brothers, Marlon Shamley and Kevin Hart; two nephews, Marcus Jones, and Quentin Woods; a great-great niece, Melani Glover. George is survived by his only daughter, Latasha April; five grandchildren, Destiny, Darius, D’Avonta, Diamond and Ja’mere; one great-granddaughter, Ky’omi aka “Chocolate Drop”; his mother, Emily Woods; two brothers, Michael Woods and David Shamley; four sisters, Karla Jones, Melissa (Walter) Shamley Hodgson, Jamilla Gilliam, and Michelle Woods; a special great-niece, Jaida Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Arrangements entrusted to Johnson Bailey Funeral Services
