Gene Robert Aldinger, age 85, of York, died peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Pleasant Acres. Born in York on December 18, 1936, he was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Nace) Aldinger. Gene was the loving husband of the late Joann Mae (Wantz) Aldinger, who preceded him in death on July 8, 2019. Gene retired from Borger Steel, where he worked as a saw operator for many years. He was a member of ValleyView Alliance Church. He enjoyed searching for treasures with his metal detector, and hunting, especially from his camp in Huntingdon County. He also enjoyed spending time with his pet cockatoo. Gene is survived by his daughters Tina Aldinger of York and Jean Lehr of Strinestown, his brother Harry Aldinger, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, AL, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Romaine M. Hawkes, Dorothy Arnold, and Joanna Sears. A funeral service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York, with Pastor Lee Nanfelt officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gene’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
