Erna Hembling, 85, a resident of Poughkeepsie, NY and formerly of Lake Luzerne, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie in Poughkeepsie, NY. Born on January 31, 1937 in Tauroggen, Lithuania, she was the daughter of the late Ewald and Alma (Meyer) Hermann. Mrs. Hembling is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Haoula and her husband, Ayman of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Delpha Snow and her husband, Richard of Fairfax, CA. She is also survived by a brother, Adolf Hermann of Colonia, NJ; two sisters, Edeltraut Knevals of Watchung, NJ and Margarete Jamieson of Fort Collins, CO; five grandchildren, Mohammad Haoula and Renee, Erik, Russell and Kreg Rosenkranz; two step-grandchildren, Jonah Snow and Nikko Haller; and eight nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her former husband, Hugo Rosenkranz of Fairfax, CA. Besides her parents, Mrs. Hembling was predeceased by her second husband, Gilbert Hembling; two sons, Thomas and Ralph Rosenkranz; two brothers, Herbert and Walter Hermann; and two sisters, Eleanora Neuhaus and Monika Hermann. Mrs. Hembling grew up in Germany and emigrated to the U.S. at age 18. She worked as a patient care technician for more than 25 years at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga, NY, and loved taking care of patients and supporting the staff. Prior to working at the hospital, she was a caregiver to several elderly residents near her home, worked in several restaurants, owned a restaurant business, and worked with her two sisters as a hairdresser at their salon in New Jersey. Mrs. Hembling truly enjoyed helping others. She volunteered at church, knitted and donated numerous items to the hospital store and pediatric care unit. She was always ready and willing to help neighbors and friends whether it was making a meal, giving someone a haircut, walking a dog or shoveling snow to clear a driveway. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, entertaining friends at her home, watching football on Sundays, and traveling with two of her sisters to a number of destinations across the U.S. Graveside services and burial at Valley View Cemetery in Dover Plains, NY will take place at a later date.
