Elwyn E. “Ed” Shonio of Bridgewater, passed away on May 25, 2022 at the age of 95. Ed grew up in Vermont and came to MA around the age of 17. Always having strong ties to Vermont, Ed built “the camp” that he and his family visited for many summers. Ed worked for Bridgewater State University as a ground’s keeper and green house manager for over 28 years. He was an active member of the Bridgewater senior center, volunteering for meals on wheels, assisting with whist on Saturday nights and partaking in the paint group. Ed had a passion for gardening and his green thumb could make just about any plant bud. He had a talent for building and creating doll house miniature furniture and decor along with needle point rugs. Ed will be remembered for his kind and generous personality. He will be sadly missed by all those who has the pleasure of knowing him. Beloved husband of the late Frances Shonio (Cummings). Loving father of Brenda Oliver of Brewster. Cherished grandfather of Jennifer Oliver and her husband Spencer Crockett of East Hampton, and Michael Oliver and his partner Juan Gomez of North Plymouth. Devoted great Grandfather of Corvin. Caring brother of Newell Shonio and his wife Marcy of Vermont. Also survived by many cousins and extended family members. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday, June 2 from 10 -11:30 AM in the Chapman Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A funeral service will be held following the visiting hours at 11:30 AM in the Chapman Funeral Home. Burial service will be Private. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ed may be made to Bridgewater Senior Center, 10 Wally Krueger Way, Bridgewater MA 02324.
