Edward Dick “Ted” Potter, Jr., age 74, of the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, formerly of York, died peacefully at the Lebanon VA Medical Center on Saturday, November 26, 2022. Born in Philadelphia on July 15, 1948, he was the son of the late Edward Dick Potter, Sr. and the late Mary Floyd (Boggs) Potter. Ted was the loving husband of 50 years of Janey Patricia (Naylor) Potter. Ted was a 1966 graduate of North Penn High School and a 1981 graduate of Temple University. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. Ted was the chief wine maker for many years for Naylor Wine Cellars. He previously worked as a chef and was a teacher at the Western Montgomery County Vocational Technical School in Limerick. Ted was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was a Sunday school teacher and an adult Bible study teacher. He was a very active member of the Masons. He was the Past Master of Red Lion Lodge No. 649, Past High Priest of York Royal Arch Chapter No. 199, Past Thrice Illustrious Master of York Council No. 21 Royal and Select Master Masons, Past Commander of York Gethemane Commadery No. 21, Education Chairman of Pennsylvania Masonic District No. 42, Officer of Red Cross of Constantine-York Conclave, Officer Good Samaritan Mark Lodge No. 139, and was a member of the Sovereign Council No. 103 Allied Masonic Degrees, First Capital High Twelve Club, Red Lion Scottish Rite Club, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Harrisburg, Knights of the York Cross of Honour, Academy of Masonic Knowledge, Pennsylvania Lodge of Research, Pennsylvania College S.R.I.C.F. (Rosecruciana), and the First Capital York Rite College No. 156. In 2019 he was awarded the prestigious “Grand Master’s Outstanding Service Award” from the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. Ted enjoyed traveling with Janey, fishing in the ocean, and writing blogs and newsletters for the winery and the Masons. In addition to his wife, Ted is survived by his son Daniel L. Potter of York, his daughter Amanda A. Brimfield, and her husband Charles of Red Lion, his grandchildren Emma, Jacob, and Thomas, and his siblings Molly Gries, and her husband Rick of Aston, Nancy Kramer, and her husband David of St. Petersburg, FL, and Matt Potter, and his wife Robyn of Sellersville. A memorial service to celebrate Ted’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 2, 2022, in the Fellowship Hall of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, with Pastor Dale Parker officiating. Masonic Funeral Rites by the Red Lion Lodge No. 649 will be held immediately prior to the church service. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ted’s memory may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, PA 17403 to aid in their missions work or to the Red Lion Lodge No. 649, 23 West High Street, Red Lion, PA 17356 to aid in the Lodge’s many charitable works.
