October 6 1947 November 10 2022
Obituary Eddie Ray Manning entered into heaven on November 10, 2022 surrounded by his family. Eddie was born October 6, 1947 to the late Andrew and Lillie Mae (Gunter) Manning. He graduated from Richton High School And shortly thereafter joined the Army National Guard in 1966. At the age of 20, Eddie married his high school sweetheart, Melva “Jean” Cannon, on May 8th, 1967 and would spend a fairytale lifetime of 54 years together. He left a legacy of love and endurance for all those that knew him. Eddie was an Industrial Salesman by trade and a youth baseball coach by choice. When Eddie wasn’t working you could find him at the Helena baseball fields with his “boys”, his “Mean Green Machine” team as he nicknamed them. Eddie enjoyed spending quality time with his family and making lasting memories each year on family vacations. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing which he did quite often with his son Eric until the grandchildren came about and he would be baiting hooks, untangling lines instead of casting a line himself. Eddie was a dedicated husband and father who treasured his wife and children and embraced every moment with them. He especially loved his role as “Pawpaw”. He lives for his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he thoroughly enjoyed spoiling. Eddie had a vivacious personality and was always cutting jokes. He made friends everywhere he went. Eddie is preceded in death by his devoted wife Melva “Jean” (Cannon) Manning of 54 years, his parents Andrew and Lillie Mae (Gunter) Manning of Richton, MS, four brothers Earnest Manning of Anniston AL, Harold Ruffin Manning of Richton MS, Lonnie Manning of Mobile AL, and William Gerald “Joe” Manning of Moss Point MS and two sisters Octavia Manning and Gladys Fortenberry, both of Richton MS. Eddie is survived by his three children Sabrina (Donald) Smith of Hurley MS, twins Erica Pringle (Jeremiah Gayle) of Moss Point MS and Eric (Caroline) Manning of Laurel MS, eight grandchildren Madison (Andrew) Aultman, Makenna Smith, Lucas Smith, Makayla Casey, CJ Casey, Kayden Pringle, Kevin Manning, Kristopher Manning and Charleigh Rae Manning, four great grandchildren Levi “Garrett” Aultman, Kowan Aultman, Gunter Aultman and Ar’yia Sims.
