October 10 1930 November 28 2022
Dorothy Jean Gardner, 92, passed from this life on Monday, November 28, 2022 in Oxford, Mississippi. A service celebrating her life will take place Friday, December 2, 2022 in the chapel of Oxford University United Methodist Church. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy was born to the late Frank and Mary Noe on the day of October 10, 1930. Dorothy grew up in Memphis, Tennessee where she excelled into an exceptional young woman who later started her career in the medical field. Dorothy started her nursing journey as an LPN which resulted in her working her way up to an RN. She served as a registered nurse for over 50 years of her life, working at Bramlett Hospital and the Old Lafayette County Hospital. Dorothy would work long hard hours to ensure that lives were saved and touched by the love she had for the career. Nursing provided her with a very fulfilled life and she loved every minute of it. Aside from work, Dorothy enjoyed the days spent with her family. She was very family oriented and her children were her pride and joy. She enjoyed the days where all of them could be together again and share the memories of the years that have passed. Dorothy also had a personality like no other, one that allowed her to be very involved with clubs and organizations. She was a member of the Oxford University United Methodist Church where she served the Lord faithfully. She also was a part of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary here in Lafayette County and involved with the VFW in general. With this personality, Dorothy with stood a lot of hard times, depending on God to carry her through. She also enjoyed lots of good times and thanked God for them. Our Dorothy will be greatly missed and deeply cherished by all those who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Those left to continue in her absence are her two children, Denise “Dee” (David) Reid and Raymond “Mike” (Kay) Bryan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Shirley D. Gardner; her children, Janice Grantham, Mary Bowie, Gerald Strickland, and Glenn Gardner; and her parents, Frank and Mary Noe. In lieu of traditional flowers, donations can be made St. Judes’s Children’s Research Hospital at the link (bit.ly/3GXZZcc) and a charity of the donor’s choice. Coleman Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Gardner family during this season of loss. Please leave online condolences to her Tribute Wall at www.colemanfuneralhome.com.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dorothy Jean Gardner October 10 1930 November 28 2022.
