“Who can find a virtuous woman? “ Proverb 31:10 Doris Singleton Lewis departed peacefully from this life to her eternal home on December 16, 2022. She was surrounded by her family. She lived until the honorable age of 93. She was a woman of faith. She accepted the Lord and was baptized at an early age. She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Lewis, her mother Inez Davis and father Thomas Singleton. Her sisters, Shirley Cox, Helen Smith and her beautiful daughter Sharon Moore all preceded her in death. Mother Lewis lived a life of service and love. She was active in her church and in her community. She adored her children and encouraged them to pursue education and to be productive citizens. She was an encourager that always saw the brightest in a dark situation. She used her many talents by giving and serving others. She was a member of St. John AME church, under the leadership of Rev. Randy Brown, where she served as a Deaconess until the church received damage and had to relocate. That did not stop her on her journey to serve the Lord, as she joined Mt. Calvary International Worship Center, under the leadership of Apostle Terry Gullage where she remained until her death. Mother Lewis believed in acquiring education. She taught elementary and middle school for many years. She also taught sign language to deaf students. Her legacy is one of a humble, kind, courageous and brilliant servant. She was beautiful inside and out. Her children rise up to call her blessed. Her many acts of kindness, helpfulness and leadership will not be forgotten. She was a member of Star of Hope OES, also a Past Matron, #138 OES, Josephine Court #1, Cyrene, Phyllis, VFW Auxiliary member and an At Large member of Gold Star Wives. She was active in pursuing rights for disabled veterans. Mother Lewis leaves to cherish her memory her children, Ramona Lewis, Doris Mackey (Kenneth), Cathy Douglas (Edgar), Edwina Selico, Edward Collins, III, and Madonna Lombard, her son in law Cornsee Moore, eighteen grandchildren, forty- one great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service to Celebrate her Life at Mt. Calvary International Worship Center, 1600 Westwood Dr., Marrero, Louisiana on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 10:00 am. Viewing will begin at 8:30 am until 10:00 am, with no additional viewing after start of service. Interment will immediately follow at Port Hudson National Cemetery, in Jackson, La.
