Donald Harry Peters, age 83, of Shelbina, MO, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022 at his home. Don was born on October 4, 1938, in Kearney, NE, the son of Harry Detlef Peters and Theodosia Bickford and was the youngest of eight children. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Wilson on December 7, 1957 in the Santa Anna Methodist Church in CA. She survives. He is also survived by his three children, Brian Peters and wife Traci of Chillicothe, MO, Lana Nelson and husband Craig of California, MO, and Darin Peters and wife Rhonda of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Letrisha Thomas (Keith) of Ashland, MO, Kristen Nelson (Jim Rohrbach) of California, MO, Sarah Nelson (Eric Stegeman) of Centertown, MO, Scott Nelson of Kansas City, MO, John Meneely (Bobbi) of Chillicothe, MO, Chauncey Brooke (Jake) of Braymer, MO, Alexandra Bandhu of St. Charles, MO, Danielle Mettes of Keokuk, IA, and Jacob Peters, Mary Peters, and Marcus Peters of Dallas, TX; 12 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way; one sister, Irene Shiers of Kearney, NE; in-laws, Cindy and Lanny Rasmussen and Carla and Rich Hallstrom; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Theodosia; stepmother, Anna Peters; sisters, Doris, Doretha, and Clara; brothers, Fred, Glen, and Bob Peters; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Chester and Roberta Wilson; brothers-in-law, Ed Wilson and Elton Shiers; and sister-in-law, Maidie Peters. Don attended Kearney Nebraska High School. He completed his education becoming a combat radio operator in the United States Marines at Camp Pendleton, CA from 1956 to 1959. After leaving the service, Don and his family moved to Kearney, NE, where he worked for a year at Rockwell Manufacturing. They then moved to Chicago Heights, IL, and he began his career as a salesman in the aluminum business. In 1966, he moved the family to Shelbina becoming the manager for Pfister Aluminum. He continued in the aluminum business as a salesman for several companies. He retired in 2005. Don enjoyed hunting and golfing and was a community supporter of the local South Shelby High School sports programs. Funeral service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO, followed by the burial with full military honors in the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. A visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to the South Shelby Golf Program.
