Donald E. Toomey, 66, died on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Wellspan York Hospital. He was the husband of Laura J. (Scott) Toomey, sharing 30 years of marriage. Donald was born in York on April 6, 1956, son of the late Danny and Rosetta (Spangler) Toomey. He retired from the paper mills and was recently a bartender at Prince A.A., where he was also a member. Donald loved all sports. He was a diehard Packers fan. He coached softball, played, and served as the umpire. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Hope Messersmith and her husband, Scott; three grandchildren, Drew Skelly, Isabella Hall and her husband, Joey, and Abigail Hufnagle; three great grandchildren, Grayson, Masen, and Isaiah; and two sisters, Lisa Torres and her husband, Pedro and Roxanne Nesbit. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Phil; and two sisters, Cindy and Missy. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York. Burial will follow the viewing at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692. Arrangements by the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
