Dennis James “Denny” Sorge, 66, of Grand Island passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022. A memorial service and celebration of Denny’s life will be Friday, April 28, 2023, at Peace Lutheran Church Life Center. Lunch and fellowship to follow immediately after at the church. Service will be live streamed on Peace Lutheran web site. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Denny was born August 15, 1956, in Fremont, the son of Arthur “Artie” and Pauline “Tweedie” (Schwindt) Sorge. He attended Trinity Grade School in Fremont, graduating from Fremont High School, class of 1974. He attended UNO for undergraduate studies and then UNO College of Pharmacy, graduating with a Pharm D. Denny worked in Nebraska City his first two years right out of college; and Council Bluffs and Omaha until 2009, at which time he relocated to Grand Island. At the time of his death, he was working for U Save Pharmacy South. Denny also worked at many local small-town pharmacies including Central City, Fullerton, Franklin and Red Cloud. He met his future wife, Christine Coleman Kamp, on a medical mission trip in Jamaica. They were married on September 20, 2008. Together they made many Jamaica Medical Mission trips with the Nebraska City Jamaican Medical Mission Team. Throughout his life, Denny’s love of music was evident. He was in choir and several musical productions while in high school. He then minored in music while pursuing his Pharm D. Dennis joined the Fremont Barbershop Chapter in 1974. He was active in Barbershop in Fremont, Nebraska City, Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Grand Island, and Hastings. He assisted Dean Thomson in establishing the Nebraska City Barbershop Chapter. Denny belonged to several Quartets and Choruses. He taught several years at Harmony College, teaching Stage Presence and became a Stage Presence Judge. He also coached many Quartets and Choruses. He also enjoyed Debate while in High School. Denny wore “many” hats. He was President of Heartland Lutheran High School Foundation and Local Cosmopolitan International Corn Belt Federation GI Chapter. At the time of his death, he was active in establishing the Peace Lutheran Education Fund for promotion of Christian Education. He was a very active member of Peace Lutheran Church. He assisted with Vacation Bible School, Lay Ministers, Health Ministry/Safety Team, Sunday Morning Coffee Fellowship Team, HyVee Bible Study, Men’s Bible Study/Iron Men and Peace Core. Those who cherish Denny’s memory include his wife, Christine; daughters, Petronia Morris-Thompson (Ricardo) and Moya Morris; sister-in-law, Bonnie Coleman and nephew, Matthew Coleman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Artie and Tweedie; sister, Karen Sue Sorge; and beloved four-legged companion, D.J. Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Education Fund.
