Delmar H. Sipes, 81, died September 11, 2022 at York Hospital as a result from injuries he sustained from an auto accident on August 17, 2022. He was the husband of Phyllis A. (Mummert) Sipes. Delmar and Phyllis were married for 57 years on March 27, 2022. Born January 14, 1941 in York, he was the son of the late George E. and Alverta I. (Shenberger) Sipes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Delmar retired in 2003 as a Branch Manager for York Bank and Trust. He was employed with the bank for 47 years and served at multiple locations throughout York County. Delmar was a 1958 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. He was an avid bowler. He bowled in many leagues at Colony Park Lanes North including a Major League and Travel League and bowled a 300 game. Delmar enjoyed playing golf and watching all sports especially Penn State Football, Baltimore Orioles, and the Baltimore Ravens. He was a former member of the Springettsbury Lions Club. Family was very important to Delmar. He was his grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader and was often seen watching their Northeastern or West York sports’ practices and games. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he is survived by his 2 daughters, Debra A. Hartzel and her husband, Scott of York and Cathy J. Jennings and her husband, Terry of Mt. Wolf; 5 grandchildren, Kyle and Kourtney Hartzel and Jordyn, Logan, and Evan Jennings; a sister, Faith E. Smith and her husband, Jerrold and a sister-in-law, Rae S. Sipes. He was preceded in death by his brother, George R. “Bud” Sipes and sister, Mary Ann Sipes. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market Street, York. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be held in Mount Rose Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fourth United Methodist Church, 20 North Lehman Street, York, PA 17403 or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff in the York Hospital Trauma ICU for the care and support you gave to Delmar over the last 4 weeks.
