It is with great sadness that we announce the death of David Elmer Smith of Gibbon, Nebraska, who passed away, December 1, 2022, at the at age of 83. Leaving to celebrate his life, his children, Ben (Lisa) Smith of Shelton; Gene (Cindy) Smith of Gibbon; Kenny (Beverly) Smith of Gibbon; Joann (Bruce) Handley of Kearney; Ann Hedrick of Gibbon; and Leon (Jennifer) Smith of Gibbon; Brothers Delbert (Linda) Smith of Lamoni, Iowa and Clinton (Irene) Smith of Kearney; Sister in-law Caroline (Max) Nelson of Lake Havasu, Arizona; Brother in laws Bill Collins of South Sioux City; Leon (Kay) Reed of Scottsdale; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Those greeting David in Heaven are his parents Elmer & Etta Smith; his wife of 64 years, Betty Ann Smith; son in-law Tony Hedrick; brothers Allen Smith and Ted Smith; sisters Leota Cline; Erma Howell; Verna Feurt; and Marjorie Walker; his parents in-law Russell Reed; Wanda and Dale Grimm; sister in-laws Connie Grimm; Susan Reed; Patricia Hodges; Patricia Baker; Sharon Olson; and Karen Kelly. David has requested no formal services he also wish donations in lieu of flowers to the Etta Smith Scholarship and/or the Gibbon Fire Department. There will be a private family burial later. Arrangements are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services.
