Daniel Allen Meeuwsen 2022

Daniel’s Obituary Daniel Allen Meeuwsen, 47, a resident of the Banks community, passed away on October 25th, 2022 at the Providence St Vincent Medical Center in Portland. Dan was born on September 26th, 1975 in Hillsboro, OR. He was the youngest of three sons born to Willis and Carol (Smith) Meeuwsen. Dan was raised on his family’s dairy farm, but ironically later found he was lactose intolerant. Dan attended St Francis Grade School and Banks High School graduating with the Class of 1993. He then attended Gonzaga University and later University of Oregon. He had met his future wife, Rebecca I. Mejia while a senior in high school. Rebecca asked Dan to the Sadie Hawkings dance and from there they began courting. They married several years later on October 11, 1996. They had two sons, Madison and David, who they raised on the family farm in Banks. Dan first started working construction for Bones Construction Company, becoming an inspector. Then in 2000, he started working for the City of Hillsboro Water Department. Dan was part of a team that collected GPS points which mapped the city’s entire water system. Later, he became the first official Water Department Inspector and worked to improve and streamline the inspection program and contractors. Later on, he transitioned to the position of Engineering Technician and began reviewing permits. In 2017, Dan was promoted to the position of Development Services Manager. He also served four years as one of the Oregon Chapter Directors of the American Backflow Prevention Association. Dan served more than 22 years at the city, always passionate about being a “civil servant.” Through the years, Dan enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two sons, Madison and David. When they were younger, he was their T-ball coach and when they got older, he often shared their interest in music and hobbies. Dan had a great joy in music and instilled a similar passion in his sons. He was proud to be a “Band Dad” to his younger son’s band, “CherryBomb!” Dan surfed and liked to stroll along the beach picking up interesting rocks. He loved nature and would often hike with his dog Eddie, seeking out waterfalls and other cool spots throughout the coast range. He had just recently adopted a second puppy, Bart. Dan liked to garden, cook, and was also an avid sports fan, especially for the Ducks and Trail Blazers. He is preceded in death by his father, Willis. He is survived by his spouse Rebecca, two sons Madison Meeuwsen of Hillsboro and David Meeuwsen of Banks, his mother Carol Meeuwsen of Forest Grove, two brothers Andrew Meeuwsen and his wife Heather of La Pine and Jay Meeuwsen of Cornelius, a niece Nora, and three nephews Jeremy, Zachery and Paul.
