March 20 1935 November 25 2022
On Friday, November 25th, Constance “Connie” Louise (Eby) Lukacs passed away peacefully, after seeing one more Thanksgiving…just like she said she would. If you knew Connie, you’d know this was no coincidence. She was always the strongest fighter, a leader, a force to be reckoned with, and the Matriarch of a family she loved fiercely. Constance Louise Eby was born on March 20th, 1935 in Maybee, Michigan. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy for Girl’s and after graduation went on to work for Michigan Bell as a telephone operator in Ann Arbor, MI. On April 29th, 1961 Connie married Miklos ‘Micky’ Lukacs at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Monroe, MI where they continued to be active members for the 61 years of their marriage. Together they raised 3 children and moved to Monroe, MI where they lived until the end of this year. At 40 years old Connie went to night school for nursing while raising her family during the day. She became a Registered Nurse and spent her time as an Emergency Room and Stress Lab nurse at Mercy Memorial Hospital until her retirement. Connie was very active in her community and in her family’s lives. She taught preschool when her children were young, was den mother for The Boy Scouts of America, helped with blood drives for The American Red Cross, delivered food for Meals on Wheels and participated in Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County’s Blitz Builds with her granddaughters. She attended every game and sports practice she could for all of her children and grandchildren. She was a regular face in the crowd to support her son in The Monroe Big Band. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and ceramics classes with her daughter. She was an avid U of M fan and proudly boasted of her son’s work there. Connie spent her free time quilting beautiful masterpieces that were in quilt shows all over the US and some that were published in a book. She traveled with Micky, their friend group, and “The Wacky Women” anywhere her car would drive. She was a competitive Farkle player, off-key singer with a song and dance for any occasion, host of the best Holiday get togethers, and glue that held the family together. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Connie leaves behind a legacy of love to her family members: 3 Children: John (Stephanie) Lukacs of Farmington Hills, Nick (Kris) Lukacs of Brighton, Laurie (Randy) Knight of Grand Haven; 4 grandchildren: Alicia (Derek) Thompson, Corissa (Drew) Moore, Carly Lukacs, and Derek Lukacs. She also leaves behind three great-grandchildren who lovingly named her “Nanny” and “Nana Hat” Maverick, Ari, and Lola. Also surviving her are her 3 sisters Angie Sicha, Pat Carroll, & Marcia Serpa, her two brothers John Eby & Jerry Eby, and many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Cleata Eby, and her husband Miklos Lukacs, who passed away last month. A Remembrance and Celebration of Connie’s life will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Saturday, Dec. 9th from 9-11 a.m. At 11 a.m., Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. David Burgard, followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation and funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Knights of Columbus Goodfellows, St. Mary Catholic Church, or the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
