Clydel “Mariah” Lewis Bess was born in Sunshine, Louisiana on October 18, 1923 to the late Reverend Abram and Alice Lewis. On Saturday, November 19, 2022, she took flight with the angels of heaven to begin her journey into her new life. She was 99 years old and a faithful servant of the Lord. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by family. She was married to the late Allen Bess and had three daughters, Deloris, Anna, (both deceased) and Gloria Bess-Smith. She was a faithful member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Roosevelt Malone, Sr. and now Pastor Roosevelt Malone, Jr., where she served on the Deaconess Board and Mother of the Church. Her greatest accomplishment was when she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Gloria Bess-Smith; granddaughter, Lynette Smith; great granddaughters, Kirsten Holmes (James) and Kristen Rankins (Donald); great great granddaughter, Mariah Lillian Rankins; a faithful and loving Godchild Willie Bell Williams, and a host of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Abram and Alice Lewis; husband Allen Bess; daughters, Deloris and Anna Bess; granddaughter Kim Michelle Smith; great great granddaughters, Kailah and Niko; and sisters, Doretha Ackers and Hazel Lewis. Relatives and friends of the family, pastors, officers and members of First Mt. Carmel BC, City Church and Greater St. Stephens Full Gospel Church are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church, 2717 Joliet St. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 10:00 am. Motorcade to First Mt. Carmel BC, St. Gabriel, LA for Dismissal Services @ 1:00 pm. Arrangements by D.W.
