April 3 1942 November 30 2022
Mrs. Borka Zdjelar, 80, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 30, 2022, in the Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones. Borka was born in Prijedor-BiH April 3, 1942. Her parents, Stevan and Mira, raised her and her five siblings in a Serbian household. She was the only daughter of six children. Borka graduated from high school in Prijedor-BiH in 1960. After meeting the love of her life and now late husband, Milorad, they moved to Sisak, Croatia to begin their lives together. Borka and Milorad were happily married for sixty-two loving years. Together they lived in Croatia for thirty-two years while raising their two daughters, Mirjana and Snjezana Zdjelar, and their granddaughter, Rosana Morrell. When the wars began in Croatia during 1991, Borka and her family moved to Germany to reside for seven years before finally settling in the United States in 1998. Borka along with her husband, two daughters, and two grandchildren settled in Johnson City, Tennessee. Borka began working at Thomasville to create a new life for her children and grandchildren. She worked for Thomasville for ten years before retiring. After retiring, Borka spent her days enjoying time with her two grandchildren, Rosana and Michael Cerina, and eventually her great-granddaughter, Tatiyana Fontenot. Even though she settled in America, she stayed true to her European roots by cooking traditional Serbian dishes for her family. Borka enjoyed taking family vacations to the beach as frequently as possible. Borka most of all enjoyed drinking her morning coffee with her daughters Mirjana and Snjezana. In addition to her parents, Borka is preceded in death by her husband, Milorad Zdjelar (April 17, 2021) and one brother, Ostoja Zdjelar (June 2022). Survivors include four brothers; her two daughters, Mirjana and Snjezana Zdjelar; two grandchildren, Rosana Morrell and her husband Matthew, Michael Cerina and his fiancée Chynna; one great-granddaughter, Tatiyana Fontenot; and several nieces and nephews. The family of Mrs. Borka Zdjelar will receive friends from 10:30am to 11:30am on Monday, December 5, 2022 in the Tetrick Funeral Services Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 11:30am with Reverend Father Stephen Mathewes, Pastor of Christ the Savior Greek Orthodox Church. The graveside committal service will then follow at 12pm Monday, at Washington County Memory Gardens. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 11:45 am Monday to go in procession to the Memorial Gardens. Tetrick Funeral Services, 3001 Peoples Street, Johnson City, TN 37604 (423) 610-7171, is honored to serve the Zdjelar family.
