October 4 1941 November 14 2022
Bobby Lawrence Deroche, 81, a native of Des Allemands, passed away on November 14, 2022, at his home of 52 years. He was born on October 4, 1941, and raised on the Godchaux Canal. His was the blood of Acadians and Germans who settled in Southern Louisiana generations before his birth in a houseboat on the bayou. His father was a trapper by trade, and his mother was once accused of being a German spy. His wife, well, he asked her to marry him on their second date, but she thought he was crazy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62½ years, Catherine Ball Deroche; children, Denise Brooks-Smith, Theresa Poussard (Perry Sr.), Sharon Vance, Debora Deroche, David Deroche (Stacie), and Melissa Hernandez (Alexis). He shared his love of Christmas with his 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren through his outdoor displays. He was preceded in death by his grandsons, Michael Ferguson, Michael Poussard, and Stephen Vance; parents, Mark (born Mark Antoine DesRoches) and Josephine Dufrene Deroche; Sister, Jeanette Champagne; and brothers, Floyd Deroche, Roland “Cotton” Deroche, and Luther Deroche; paternal grandparents, Joseph Laurent DesRoches and Marie Alexina Bourg; paternal great-grandparents, Theodule DesRoches, and Adeline Boudreaux DesRoches. Born on the water, he continued his love of it by fishing and trawling for many years. As a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for over 41 years, he made a living in the outdoors he loved. He always had a garden to tend. His love of the Eucharist called him to service as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Westwego where he was a parishioner for over 47 years. He was also a Benedictine Oblate. His love of family was evident and he kept mementos of the past, including the guest sign-in book for his grandmother’s funeral. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero, LA on Sunday, November 20, 2022 from 6 pm to 10:00 pm.
