Obituary Billy Ray Hitch, 87, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Heritage Center. Billy was born in Evansville, Indiana on February 25, 1935 to the late William Lawrence and Eva Alvina (Drain) Hitch. He went to Henry Reis Grade School and graduated from Central High School. Billy honorably served in the United States Army. He was one of the founders of the Warrick County Federal Credit Union (now Heritage Federal Credit Union) and retired from Alcoa after many years of service. Billy married his high school sweetheart at Old North Church in 1964. He was a member of the Evansville Athletic Club (EAC) and the Owls Nest #30. Billy enjoyed golfing, going to the horse races, and at one time had a box at Ellis Park. He was a huge IU basketball fan and loved being outside, cutting grass and helping his neighbors keep up with their lawns. Billy was a very giving person, always willing to help others and family was of the utmost importance. Billy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Flame “Torchy” (Birk) Paul Hitch; daughter, Carla Hitch (Jeff Sumner); son, Bill Hitch (Georgia); sister, Carol Talley (Ron) all of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Rick Moritz and Jeremiah Martin; great grandson, Luke Moritz; brother-in-law, Lee Birk of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. Billy was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Nancy Perry, Martha Niehaus and Ruth Bridge. A Celebration of Billy’s life will be held at 6:00 pm Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN, 47711 with Pastor Tim Judd officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may visit from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:30 am until 9:45 am on Wednesday at the funeral home.
