Obituary Bertha Louise Bettis, 78, of Jacksonville, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 19, 1944, in Chicago the daughter of Paul and Mabel Sluder Craddock. Bertha married Earl Bettis on July 3, 1965, in Jacksonville at the Church of Our Saviour and he preceded her in death on August 9, 2017. Bertha is survived by one son, Gary (Stacey) Bettis of Chatham, and one daughter, Mary Lou (deceased husband, Kurt) Rogers of Springfield. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Donte, Lance, Brian-Thomas, and Nick Rogers, and Brett, Garrett, and Brayden Bettis. She was preceded in death by one son, Earl Bettis, and three brothers, Larry Craddock, Edward Craddock, and Charles Craddock. As a young lady, Bertha worked at J. Capps and Sons in Jacksonville, and later worked as a home health aide for the Visiting Nurses Association. She also worked as the receptionist for the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and eventually retired from the lab at Passavant Hospital. She was a member of Church of Our Saviour, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Pilot club. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville with burial to follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Help at Home-Pittsfield.
