Arno “Chicken” Ebner passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2022 in Austin, Texas. Arno Herbert Ebner, the son of Arthur and Mollie Ebner, was born August 1, 1931. He graduated from Thorndale High School in 1949 and joined the Merchant Marines. After 2 years in the Merchant Marines, he served in the US Navy for 4 years. He married Peggy Rieger on June 5, 1954 and they were blessed with three children; Vicki, Jackie, and David. Chicken worked for the IGC at Alcoa in Rockdale for 2 years before the family moved to Austin. He became a barber for 7 years and barely missed being killed by the UT sniper in 1966. He later worked for UT as a plumber for 25 years. Chicken loved his family and had many, many friends. He kept candy to hand out to the neighborhood kids and always harassed all the nurses at the hospital. Chicken is survived by his wife, Peggy; his 3 wonderful children, Vicki Blangger, Jackie Srnensky, and David Ebner; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Austin, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:30 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church in Austin. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Ernest Stephens, Bill Arldt, David Hall, Heath Grimm, Kyle Ebner, Stephen Srnensky.
