Alice Compton passed away peacefully at The Bailey Center in St Augustine FL on December 10, 2021, with her loving family at her side. She was 90 years old. Alice led a storied life, traveling as a child throughout the Midwest with her two brothers, her mother and the ‘Jack Everette Orchestra’, her father’s big band. She enjoyed sharing stories of life on the road with her family and the band members. She met her husband, Robert, at Illinois College and together they went on raise their four children in Pearl River NY. Both she and her husband were active in the Presbyterian church wherever they lived, including Memorial Presbyterian her in St. Augustine. She worked as her church’s secretary in Pearl River for many years. She and Robert retired and moved to St Augustine, FL in 1989 where they renovated an old carriage house on Cordova St. and opened and proudly ran The Old City House, a restaurant and Bed and Breakfast. She was predeceased by her husband Robert and her son John Compton. She is survived by her daughters, Gail Compton of Burlington Vt, Susan Meyerer and her husband Craig, Marilyn Compton all of St Augustine FL, her grandchildren Cara Fleming her husband Mike of Middleburg FL, Katie Brennan of St Augustine, Claire Compton of Providence, RI and William Rutkowski of Colorado and Kenneth Rutkowski of Burlington, VT. We would like to thank the staff of the Allegro, as well as Linda Baker and Faye Powell, for all the love they showed our mother over the years. We also like to thank the medical and support staff at Community Hospice and the Bailey Center for helping our mother and us throughout her transition. We feel lucky to have met you all. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Memorial Presbyterian Church.
