January 31 1969 September 8 2021
Kevin “Verb” Lamont Gittings, 52, of Bristow, Virginia, passed away on September 8, 2021. Kevin was born on January 31, 1969 in Havre de Grace, Maryland, to the late Climesto and Patricia Coley. Kevin grew up in Aberdeen Maryland, where he attended Aberdeen High School. While attending Aberdeen High School, Kevin played football, wrestling and track. He still holds many county records in these sports. After attending Aberdeen High, Kevin attended Coppin State University where he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Kevin left Coppin in his sophomore year to attend the University of Maryland, College Park. Kevin was a gifted athlete, who excelled in football, wrestling and track; but most of all in rugby. Since picking up the sport at the University of Maryland, College Park, Kevin joined the Maryland Exiles of the American Rugby Union in Bethesda. His amazing play earned him a spot on the USA Rugby National Team, which took him to compete in places around the world, including Greece, Spain, Sri Lanka, Figi and the Cayman Islands. Kevin was such a legend on the rugby pitch that many of the players, even his own teammates, only knew him as “Verb”, because that was the only way to describe his speed and agility on the field. While Kevin was an accomplished, self-taught network engineer and had a long career at numerous companies, his most recent work was behind the lens as a photographer. While it was a part-time job, it was definitely his passion; painstakingly reviewing details of every photoshoot and every photograph he took. He was truly an artist with his camera. Most of all, Kevin was a devoted husband and father. He helped raise two smart, talented and beautiful daughters that will keep his zest for life and spirit for artistry alive forever. Kevin was preceded in death by his father Climesto Coley Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Dana Gittings; adoring daughters Zoë and Cameron Gittings of Bristow, Virginia; Mother Patricia Coley of Aberdeen, Maryland; Sisters Kim Wood of Georgia, Centoria Best of North Carolina, Shanda White (Husband, Keon) of Baltimore, Maryland, and Amber Coley of Aberdeen, Maryland; Brothers Climesto Coley, Jr. of Frederick, Maryland, Omar Coley of South Carolina, and Anthony Artis of North Carolina; Mother-in-law Ratna Rao of Bradenton, Florida; Brother-in-law Dave Rao of Washington, D.C.; Godsons Logan and Hunter White of Baltimore, Maryland: and a host of godbrothers, godsisters nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held for Kevin at 12:00 PM on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral service, and the family will greet guests in the Celebration of Life room immediately after the service.
