March 9 1945 March 26 2021
Bonnie Joyce Ahlstrom Barber, 76, suddenly left mortal life on March 26, 2021 in St. George UT. She was born March 9, 1945 in Cedar City, UT to Joyce Adelle Adams and Charles Howard Ahlstrom. Bonnie married William James Barber Jr. on October 1, 1965 in the Oakland California Temple. Bonnie was raised in Oakland CA and attended school there. After graduating from Skyline High School, she went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Cal Berkley. Bonnie and Bill started their married life in the Bay Area, and within a few years moved their family to UT. There they raised their seven children in the Salt Lake Valley. While her degree was in accounting, she prioritized education. She taught advanced math in the same private school where she was the principle for 13 years. Bonnie mentored, tutored, and instilled a love of learning in many people, both young and old, even into her final days. The last four years of her life were spent in Parowan, UT where she managed Lizzie’s Heritage Inn and did what she enjoyed most, welcoming people into her home. Guests experienced some of the love that she has for her family. One particular child was asked how he liked his visit at the hotel. He said “I didn’t stay at a hotel, I stayed at Grandma’s house”. Even greater than the love she has for her family, Bonnie has a deep and passionate love for her Savior. She had true Christ like love and exemplified that through her service to all. She was greeted in heaven by her husband, Bill, daughter Teresa, son Marc, and her parents. She will be greatly missed by her Final Five: Adam (Tammy) Barber, Meri (Kody) Brown, Elaine (Hyrum) Jenson, Rebekah (Nathan) Dilts and Deborah (Clint) Bronson, her sister Mimi (Marc) Lauper, brother Bill (Jone) Osborn, 30 immediate grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Several members of Bonnie’s family are unrelated by blood, but Bonnie never made the distinction. All those who called her “mom” or “grandma” appropriately mourn the loss of a dear one. In her niece’s words, “As her magnificent sun sets here…find peace that her reunion on the other side is a beautiful sunrise!” The family sends a heartfelt thank you to the hospital staff and nurses who cared for her in her final moments, and a special thanks to Serenity Funeral Home who treated Bonnie with the utmost respect. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the Rocky Ridge Chapel, 157 N. Eastridge Road in Rocky Ridge Utah (from I-15 exit 242). Viewing will be held at 11:00 am with services at 1:00 pm. Interment will be held at the Rocky Ridge Cemetery.
