Philip Salzone, 90, loving husband, father, grandfather, and proud Korean War veteran passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 27th, 2020 in his home with his wife Mary by his side. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Phil proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 – 1953, and then came home and served in the Army Reserves until 1957 during which time he met the love of his life Mary, They married on Sept 18th, 1955 and were inseparable for over 64 years. He was a loving father to Joseph and Nina and to his 6 grandchildren Marissa, Philip, Anthony, Stephanie, Nicole and Cara. Phil proudly worked for Pan American Airlines for 30 years. It gave him the opportunity to travel to Italy many times; specifically Rome and Sicily; visiting the Vatican and spending time with relatives. He retired at the age of 55 but kept busy babysitting his grandchildren and being the family handyman. After moving from Brooklyn to Staten Island, he became an active member of the Huttner-Pasqualini Post, VFW Post, Korean War Veterans of Staten Island and St. Charles Parish. Philip will be laid to rest next to his parents Joseph & Ninfa and brother Vincent (Jimmy) in Rosedale Cemetery in NJ.
