Melba’s Obituary Melba Sue Rice, 73, of Milam, Texas passed away Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. Melba was born in Hemphill, Texas on November 7, 1946 to Richard Thomas Retherford and Hazel Huffman. She is survived by her sons, Richard Rice and wife, Pamela of Whitehouse, Tx, Thomas Rice of Milam, Kevin Rice and Amanda of Hemphill, and Lynn Clark of Hemphill; brother, Terry Retherford and wife, Becky of Odessa, Tx.; sisters, Jo Ann Modisette and husband, Robert of Hardin, Tx., Sharon Krewjosky and husband, Bill of Henderson, Tx., and Judy Rouse and husband, David of Hot Springs, Arkansas; grandchildren, Robin Rice of Texarkana, Jennifer Scheppan of Jacksonville, Tx., and Brendon Rice of Hemphill; and great grandchildren Shane Scheppan, Matthew Scheppan and Richard Harrill Scheppan of Whitehouse, Tx. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Retherford and Hazel Retherford; husband, Lee rice; son, William Daryl Rice; daughter, Melba Elaine Rice; brothers, Calvin Retherford and T.R. Retherford; and sister, Linda Funk. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2020 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Floyd Wright officiating. A private family burial will follow services in Rice Family Cemetery in Milam, Texas with Shannon Williams, Shannon Frick, Jimmy Frick, Vince Clark Shawn Clark, Cody Clark, and Lane Modisette as pall bearers.
