James L. Parish, an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, passed away from natural causes in his home on April 25, 2020. He was 62. Jim was born in Augsburg, Germany on January 4, 1958, the son of the late SFC Donald S. Parish Sr. and Alice (Ryder) Parish. He was the youngest of five children. Jim is survived by his brother Donald S. Parish Jr. and sisters Charlotte Engelke (Richard), Ora Spurr (Dennis), and Ellen Lolli (Damon). He grew up in San Diego, California where he graduated from Crawford High School. Jim taught at the University of Arizona before moving to Edwardsville where he taught at SIUE for 30+ years. He was well-liked and admired by his colleagues, students, and friends. Mathematics was his passion, but he had many interests that included reading, music, cooking, and the love of his two furry companions. He had an extensive library of books, music, and videos that spanned many genres. Jim had a witty and thoughtful sense of humor that will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
