James Christopher “Chris” Hicks of Covington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Abbey Hospice. He was 70 years of age. Chris was born in Atlanta, GA to James Joseph and Hattie Smith Hicks. He was a loving husband, father, Paw Paw, and a kind friend to everyone he met. Chris had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling especially to the beach, loved spending time with his family, he would say, “I may not be a rich man, but I am rich in family!” Chris was one of the first men to work on the G-DOT HERO unit #533 aka Santa Claus. He proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, then the Army National Guard. Chris loved his parents and family unconditionally. He will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by his mother, Hattie Hicks; and son, Joe Hicks; he is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Hicks; children, Chris Hicks, Jr. (Sheila), Deborah Hicks (Darren), Ellen Powell (Glenn Owens), Micheal Powell (Michelle), Christy Powell, Franklin Egan (Lanie); father, Joe Hicks; sisters, Pam Boswell (Donnie), Terri Burnett (John), Tracy Moore; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 7 great great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 1, 2020 at 10 am in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services with Dwight Stallings officiating. Due to the current COVID-19 and coronavirus pandemic recommendations, those who are able to attend are encouraged to practice social distancing. Those who are unable to attend we understand, and appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Interment to follow at Melwood Cemetery in Stone Mountain.
