CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Fred L. Patrick, 90, died Thursday, May 14, 2020, at his home. He was born in Castlewood, Virginia; son of the late Alexander and Lizzie Robinson Patrick. He was preceded in death by one brother, Otis Patrick; and three sisters, Helen Patrick, Virginia Hay, and Nora Patrick. He spent his early years being a carpenter before he went to work in the coal mines for 10 years. Later on, he worked as a farmer and was an avid coon hunter. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War as a corporal. He was a member of Mills Chapel Church in Castlewood, Virginia, and was also a member of the U.M.W.A. He is survived by his wife, Nina Patrick; two sons, Rev. Mike Patrick and wife, Rebecca of Castlewood, Virginia and David Patrick and wife, Susan of Abingdon, Virginia; one grandson, Tyler Patrick and wife, Kandace of Summerville, South Carolina; two granddaughters, Amber Hess and husband, Eric of Surfside City, South Carolina and Asha Sproles and husband, John of Bluff City, Tennessee; three great-grandsons, Landon Hess, Braelin Hess, and Eli Patrick; three great-granddaughters, Addyson Hess, Piper Sproles, and Arabella Patrick; four nieces and one nephew. Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia of no more than 50% of capacity gathering, Funeral Services for Fred L. Patrick will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2020, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Darrell Milgrim officiating. Committal Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2020, in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Family and Friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2020, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia following the same restrictions. A Radio Broadcast of the Funeral Service will be available on 88.9 FM while being able to remain in your vehicle at the time of service.
