Swider passed away peacefully while sleeping in the early morning hours of May 23, 2020. She turned 102 years old on April 14, 2020. She was born and raised in Chicago, IL, the third of seven children of Josephine and Peter Ksiazek. On February 15, 1941, she married the love of her life, Edmund J. Swider. In December 1954, she moved to Skokie, IL, where she lived until age 92. During her long and blessed life, she was a loving wife, mom and home-maker. She raised 4 children by instilling steadfast Catholic values along with being responsible for your actions, applying yourself in all endeavors, and not wasting time or money. Most every action she took in life revolved around family—-the one she grew up in and the one she created. When not involved with family, Estelle enjoyed socializing with close friends and neighbors. Her main social club was a group of dear couples who knew each other for over 50 years and celebrated together annually with Fourth of July picnics and Christmas caroling complete with Polish songs. Estelle was a good neighbor and made many long-time friends in the Skokie neighborhood and at St Lambert’s Church. She was a volunteer Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den mother for many years and bowled with the St Lambert’s Womens League for over 15 years. Estelle loved to travel and always planned the family summer car trips. She made sure to visit as many National Parks as possible. Once Edmund retired, they traveled more extensively, going to England, Poland and annual longer spring stays in Arizona. She enjoyed collecting penants and post cards from the many places they visited. Estelle was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Edmund, and first daughter, Justine Kawalek; also pre-deceased by parents Josephine and Peter Ksiazek, brother Edward Ksiazek, and sisters: Helen Rendak, Albina Zielan, Lillian Rendak and Emily Maslanka. She is survived by sister Evelyn Boos of Park Ridge, IL, daughters Marcia and Barbara Swider and son Lawrence Swider along with son-in-laws Robert Kawalek and John Norwig, daughter-in-law Lee Swider; grandchildren Justin Manley (and wife Paula Manley), Peter Kawalek, Jessica English (and husband Wade English) and Eric Swider; great-grand children Rowan Manley and Bennett English. Estelle and her life accomplishments will be celebrated at a memorial to be scheduled later. She is buried in section 42E (shrine name: Marian) at All Saints Cemetery in DesPlaines, IL.
