Douglas Wayne Buckles December 15, 1939 – May 06, 2020 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Memorial Donation Douglas Wayne (F.F.C.) Buckles, 80, Elizabethton, TN passed away Wednesday May 6th, 2020 at his residence after a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Eston and Roxie Odom Buckles. In addition to this parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Augusta Buckles and a sister: Virginia Clark. Doug was a 1957 graduate of Unaka High School. Within his community, Doug was the voice of the Unaka Rangers for 43 years and was a member of Carter Christian Church. He Served in the United States Air Force. He was retired from the Johnson City Fire Department after serving for 30 years and the last 11.5 years he served as the city’s Fire Chief. He was a member of the Elizabethton Elk Lodge, the V.F.W. Post 2166, American Legion and Moose Lodge. He served as Chairman of the Carter County Election Commission, as a Commissioner of the 1st District of Carter County and was President of the Southeastern Chiefs Association. Survivors include his wife: Carolyn Perrett Buckles, three children: Leigh Anne (Darrin) Rowe, Douglas Wayne Buckles Jr., and Chad Dwayne Buckles, three grandchildren: Logan (Tabatha) Rowe, Colton Rowe, and Addisyn Rowe, two great grandchildren: Arianna Mitchell and Emily Shelton, one sister: Voretta (Phil) French, two special brother in laws: Paul (Diane) Perrett and Bubba (Sherry) Perrett, several nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service will be conducted Saturday, May 9, 2020 in the Buckles Cemetery with Mr. Don Brandon and Mr. Daryl Cox,Ministers officiating. Active Pallbearers will be provided by Johnson City Fire Department Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers include: Johnny Holder, Walt Pierce, Paul Souder, Jerry Huskins, Ken Nidiffer, Henry Wayne Ensor, Roscoe Peters, Norman Peters, Jerry Hyder, Rex Scott, Ron Scalf and the Retired Fire Chiefs of East Tennessee. Special Thanks: Family and friends from Carter Christian Church, Team of Nurses and Doctors at VA Hospital of Johnson City and Hospice Nurses: Megan, Emily and Danielle. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday and also Saturday morning until noon.
