He was born in Dry Ridge, Kentucky to Brack F. and Anna Lee Houchens. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy and his granddaughter Hayley. He is survived by his children Terrie (Curt) Slack, Brack (Gloria) Houchens, Scott (Beth) Houchens, Anna (Mark) Case; grandchildren Carrie, Curtis, and Nancy Slack; Dorothy, Tyson, Perry, and Hannah Houchens; Scott and Lauren Houchens; Collin and Christian Volk; Charles McDermott; Sarah and Zach Case, and eleven great-grandchildren. He worked for the City of Dayton for over thirty years, attaining the position of Assistant Superintendent of Water Distribution before retiring. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Huber Heights lodge. Charlie loved Kentucky basketball, the Reds, and the Bengals, although he was known to express an opinion or two on how they were coached! He really enjoyed golfing and fishing with his friends and had great affection for his siblings (who preceded him in death) Harry, Tom, Clarence, Donald, Barbara and their families. The Houchens Family reunions were always joyful occasions for him, and he loved his nieces and nephews and their children. Charlie touched many lives as a little league baseball coach and as an avid supporter of the Huber Heights athletic scene back in the day, where his wit and colorful personality combined with his love of sports. Charlie lived a full life, was greatly loved by his family, and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Morgan Singleton and Jayna Young for the loving care they provided Charlie and the entire staff of Vitas Hospice for their compassionate service. A private service will be held. Arrangements are being handled by the GEORGE C. MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, Dayton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to Vitas at vitascommunityconnection.org/.
