S Shell, 66, of Casey, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2020, peacefully at her home. Sandra Sue (Plagman) Shell was born June 25, 1953, in Guthrie Center, IA, to Chris and Mary Ann (Nelson) Plagman. She attended school in the Adair-Casey School System, graduating in 1971. Upon graduation, she attended Northwest Missouri State College. Sandra soon realized college wasn’t for her. She returned home and began her career with Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Des Moines, where she worked until her retirement 43 dedicated years later. As we know, Sandra couldn’t sit still and worked several part time jobs during those 43 years. After retirement, Sandra worked her favorite part time job of all, Zipp’s Pizzaria where she still got to see several ex-coworkers and meet many new favorites. On March 25, 1974, Sandra and Wayne were married. Sandra was very involved with several different community activities. She served as Casey Service Club President, helped organize Casey Fun Days, and spent countless hours working in the beloved Veteran’s Park just to name a few. Sandra was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Casey, IA. She was an active member of LMWL. Sandra enjoyed the many simple things in life, mowing her yard, talking with friends, scratching lottery tickets, delivering baked goods to local business employees, or anything that would keep her busy and socializing. BUT most of all, Sandra loved her family and time spent with them playing cards, family dinners, or attending one of her grandkids activities. Sandra found great joy in putting others before herself. Sandra is survived by daughters, Melissa (Steve) of Menlo and Amber (Jamie) of Anita; 6 grandchildren: Daniel, Carly, Sean and Becca Renslow, Ella and Irelyn Gundy; 2 great-grandkids, Brooklyn and Briarlynn Renslow; 1 sister, Sharon (Del) of Guthrie Center; 1 sister-n-law, Linda (Salvador) of Colorado; uncle and aunt, Verdell and Janet Nelson of Casey; niece, Jenni (Josh) Wiig of Clive; and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; parents, Chris and Mary Ann Plagman; paternal and maternal grandparents; grandson, Cade; nephew, Ryan Wedemeyer; and several uncles and aunts. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 6, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Casey, IA. Per CDC regulations no more than 10 people can be in the church at one time. A private graveside service will be held at Dalmanutha Cemetery north of Casey, IA. Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair, IA, is in charge of the arrangements.
