William Jerry Skipper

William Jerry Skipper, age 75, of Opelika, AL, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at East Alabama Medical Center. He was born on May 15, 1944 in Ashford, AL, to his late parents; Jack Skipper and Rosalie Capan. He married his childhood sweetheart, Johnnie Bell Adams.  After serving in the Air Force in Vietnam, Jerry worked in the automotive industry, then drove long haul trucks and saw the nation, and then worked in the construction industry, eventually opening a business building custom homes in Atlanta.  Jerry and Johnnie raised three beautiful daughters and were able to enjoy time with grandchildren and greatgrandchildren during their retirement in Dallas, Georgia and Opelika, Alabama.  Jerry was kindhearted, always looking for a person to help.  He loved NASCAR racing, target shooting, woodwork, Bible preaching, gospel music, cooking steaks and BBQ, spending time with family and friends and his dog Frosty. He was a devoted husband to Johnnie, caring for her above all else in their retirement and her illness. Mr. Skipper was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Skipper.

Survivors include his loving wife, Johnnie Bell Skipper of Opelika, AL, daughters; Sherry Ginn and her husband, Tom of Marietta, GA, Jennie Laverne and her husband, Mark of Charleston, S.C., Toni Allison and her husband, James of Peachtree Corners, GA, 9 wonderful grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, his cousin, Bobbie Kirkland of Ashford, AL, and several nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service for Mr. Skipper will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Victory Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Weaver officiating. The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service in person due to Covid-19 restrictions.
