He was the beloved son of Florence (Kolak) Zochowski and Leon Zochowski. Matt lived his life with faith, love and conviction. He was a parishioner of St. Theresa’s Church in South Hadley for 55 years. He loved afternoon naps with his father, Junior Mints, Dunkin Donuts coffee and the Democratic party, voting in every local and national election since he was 18. Brother to two sisters, Kathleen Magoon of South Hadley and Christine Gallagher of Jacksonville, Florida, he was also the uncle of five, Chelsea and Scott May, Dylan Magoon, and Kaylee and Mitchell Gallagher. He is survived by his brother-in-law, John Magoon, his brother in law David Gallagher and several cousins. He is also survived by his mother and predeceased by his father. He was a lifelong resident of South Hadley, attended the South Hadley Public Schools and the Hampshire education Collaborative. He took great pride in his work at Commonwealth Packaging and at the Big Y in South Hadley, enjoyed his monthly Explorers Group meetings and was an active participant in the Special Olympics. Matthew traveled widely with his parents and loved family summer vacations in Maine and Cape Cod. He loved shooting hoops, listening to music, swimming laps in the pool, playing his guitar, and he would watch every Red Sox and Patriot’s game on TV with his parents. He loved his nieces and nephews and could always be seen at Chelsea’s horse shows and at Dylan’s baseball games. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his best friends, Robert Luchini and Philip Chesky. Matt’s family is thankful for the dedicated, loving, and compassionate staff at his group home, his second family. His caregivers went above and beyond our expectations and we will always be grateful. His family would also like to extend their gratitude to Father Michael Twohig of St. Theresa’s Parish. All services will be private, with burial at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be mad to St. Theresa’s Church.
