Obituary Christopher Reid, 66, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 Chris was born on Saturday, December 19, 1953 to John and Bessie Reid in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating from Murphy High School in Atlanta in 1971, he went on to study Electrical Engineering at The Georgia Institute of Technology earning a Bachelor’s degree in 1975 and then continuing his education with a Masters in Business Administration from Northern Illinois University in 1982. After graduation with his Bachelor’s, he started his first job in DeKalb, Illinois as an engineer with General Electric in the Motors Division, kicking off a 45-year career in engineering and technical sales that moved Chris and his family from Illinois to Michigan and ultimately to Indiana. In 1974, he met Vickie (Franks) Reid, and they wed in 1976, going on to have two children, Rebecca and Timothy. In addition to his professional engineering career, Chris started his Christian walk as a young member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Atlanta, then becoming an active member of Greater Progressive Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, most notably serving as Deacon since 2012. Chris was also Secretary of the Indiana Democrat African American Caucus Fort Wayne Chapter. Outside of work, church, and politics, Chris enjoyed sports and participated in recreational bowling, tennis, basketball, softball, and volleyball. Chris is predeceased by his father, John Lewis Reid, and his Father and Mother-in-Law, Leroy and Betty Franks. He is survived by his mother Bessie Reid; wife, Vickie Reid; his sister, Traciel Reid; his two children, Rebecca (Ethan) Bennett and Timothy Reid; his brothers-in-Law, Howard and Merlin Franks; his niece Zion Franks; and other extended family and close friends. A memorial service will be scheduled for a future time when all of Chris’ families and friends can gather together to celebrate his life. Chris lived his life according to Proverbs 27:17 “iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another”.
